Library Student Ambassador Programme (2021/22)
Our Library Student Ambassadors have completed two exciting projects this year. After receiving training and having opportunities to try on some tasks, eight Library Student Ambassadors were divided into two groups to work on the two projects respectively – organizing a Reading Club event and running a “Learning Buddies” programme.
The experience in organizing an event and creating learning plans to support fellow students through library resources empowered the Ambassadors as advocates for library services. They practiced and developed techniques in various aspects such as presentation, communication, leadership, and information skills.

“It was my first time hosting a reading activity and leading the discussion with a small group of schoolmates. I think it is a valuable experience to learn to hold an event – selecting the book, preparing questions for discussion, and sharing ideas with others. Thanks to the library staff and other student ambassadors for support during this journey. They are all nice, and I was delighted to cooperate with them. Overall, I enjoyed every moment when I was a student ambassador.”

“This is the first time to join the programme, and I was glad to be a member. During the year, I learnt how to categorize the books with systematic methods, organize a Reading Club event and use different kinds of equipment in creating a video.
I was quite nervous about hosting a Reading Club event since there were lots of preparation work and I needed to practice how to speak fluently in front of an audience. The organization of the event is a great opportunity for me to learn to communicate with my teammates effectively. It was an unforgettable experience for me.”

“Being a Library Student Ambassador not only can broaden my knowledge of information searching skills but also enhance my understanding of how library facilities and services can support my peers.
The library provided sufficient and various training sessions for student ambassadors to gain practical experience in fully utilizing library resources and holding library activities.
To meet the specific academic needs of my fellow schoolmates such as searching for reference materials and fulfilling graduation requirements, I interviewed them to understand their needs and taught them how to make good use of library resources.
Overall speaking, joining the programme is meaningful and valuable to me.”

“I was honored to be a Library Student Ambassador this year. It was a novel experience and further integrated me into university life. In the past few training sessions, I have learnt various skills such as book cataloguing and the preparation of library promotional materials.
During the Learning Buddies programme, I interviewed my classmate and created a plan to facilitate her learning process. I felt the responsibility of being a Library Student Ambassador and the joy of helping others.”

“This programme equipped me with different skills, and I realized that the library puts more efforts into serving students.
The project of the Learning Buddies Programme is unforgettable to me. It was the first time for me to design a tailor-made learning plan for my classmate. Through interviewing him, I gained more understanding of his own situation and learning needs. I then drafted the solution plan to help him to meet his learning goals this semester.
AIso, I have learnt more on library operation and searching skills in finding useful information related to companies in China by using library databases.”

“Through the Library Student Ambassador programme, I learnt more deeply about the services and resources of the HSUHK library. It provides lots of resources and services to support learning needs of students such as offering Information Skills Workshops, which are useful for writing essays and reports. The most unforgettable and challenging task of the programme is marking the MARC tags for books. It is more complicated than I thought.
Finally, I am grateful for this valuable opportunity to join this programme because I gain a deeper understanding about the operation of a library now.”
