Course Reserve

The Course Reserve Collection contains course related materials which are made available to students either electronically or physically. Items on reserve for a class may include books, textbooks, journal articles, book chapters and multi-media items.

Physical items on reserve are located at the Service Counter on G/F of the Library. The loan period is two hours, which is non-renewable.

 

Information for Academic Staff

Place course materials on reserve

The Course Reserve Collection is comprised of items recommended by academic staff. The Library will call for academic staff to send their recommendations by email before the semester begins. Requests on putting items to Course Reserve Collection can be made anytime during the semester by email to library@hsu.edu.hk.

 

Put items that the Library does not own on reserve

Academic staff can request to put items that the Library does not own on reserve. The Library will attempt to acquire the requested items, but there is no guarantee that they can be available before the semester begins. If academic staff would like to deposit personal copies as Course Reserve items, a request may be submitted by using the Reserve Request Form.

 

Period of time of the recommended item to be available after submitting a request

Please submit your request as early as possible to allow sufficient time to process the requested item before the semester begins.

 

Remove Course Reserve Materials

You are welcomed to submit a request on removing the item which is no longer required for reserve by email to library@hsu.edu.hk.

 

Copyright Issue

All instructors are responsible for ensuring the copyright clearance of the materials they are requesting for placement on course reserve have been done accordingly.

Find course reserve materials

By using SearchPlus, you can search with the course names, course codes, instructor names or names of departments on the tab “Course Reserve” to find course reserve materials.

Remember to mark down the call number of the item for borrowing.

 

Loan quota, Loan period and overdue fines of Course Reserve materials

You can borrow up to five course reserve items at a time.

Due to heavy demand, the course reserve materials allow for two hours loan and cannot be renewed.

For Course Reserve materials borrowing within two hours before closing on G/F, you may keep them overnight, and they must be returned before 9:30 am on the next opening day.

Late return will incur an hourly overdue fine of HK$2 per opening hour.

Borrowed Course Reserve materials must be returned to the Library Service Counter. To avoid fine, you are reminded not to put course reserve materials in Book Drop.

 

Access to reserve materials from off campus

You can access reserve materials such as electronic book chapters and journal articles from outside of the campus via EZproxy or VPN. For details, please refer to Off-Campus Access to E-Resources.
