Database: Featured Collections of Streaming Videos at Alexander Street
Description: 1) The CNN Video Collection
The CNN Video Collection is designed to spark classroom discussions, support scholarly research and inform and engage students on the topics that impact today’s world. Geared toward academic and public libraries and available for the first time in the library market, this collection of CNN’s specials and feature programming includes 450 high-quality videos covering business, economics, environmental studies, health technology, women’s studies, human rights and more. It will continue to grow with additional titles through 2023.

2) Global Issues Library
The Global Issues Library will include at completion coverage of 180 issues, topics, and events from the late 1890s to the present that are key to understanding today’s world including border and migration, atrocities and human rights violations, peacekeeping, climate change, terrorism, revolutions, and human trafficking. Specific events explored include the U.S. and Mexico Border, the Rwandan Genocide, the Arab Spring, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and climate migrants in Asia Pacific.

3) The BBC Horizon Video Collection
Spanning the years from 2009 – 2023, The BBC Horizon Video Collection is a comprehensive run of recent years of the series. The BBC Horizon television program “tells amazing science stories, unravels mysteries and reveals worlds you’ve never seen before”.

4) 60 Minutes: 1997-2014
60 MINUTES is one of the most successful television programs in American history. Nearly two decades of television’s most preeminent program are available online. It grants unprecedented access to the CBS News archives from this period, including many episodes not widely seen since their original broadcast.

Database: China and the Modern World

China and the Modern World is a series of digital archive collections sourced from preeminent libraries and archives across the world, including the Second Historical Archives of China and the British Library. This trial includes the following two collections.

a) Hong Kong, Britain and China 1841-1951
It is an essential primary source archive for researching the history of Hong Kong in the context of Modern China and the British Empire in Asia. This collection of British Colonial office correspondence relates to Hong Kong as a British colony between 1841 and 1951, and provides detailed information on the political, military, social, economic, and external development of Hong Kong.


b) Diplomacy and Political Secrets 1869-1950
Diplomacy and Political Secrets comprises a compilation of 4,204 rare China-related historical documents carefully selected from three series within the India Office Records now held at the British Library: the Political and Secret Department Records, the Burma Office records, and the Records of the Military Department.
