Circulation Services

Circulation Services is the first contact point for library users, which assists them in locating and circulating library materials. The service counters are located on every floor in the Library. Library staff at the service counters are ready to answer enquiries and provide professional services.

For convenience, self-check machines are available on 1/F and 2/F. For the first time user, you will need to change the password through “My Library Account” before using the self-check machines. You are encouraged to borrow and return library materials by using the time-saving devices. The Library Services Counters can also be reached at (852) 3963-5310 or library@hsu.edu.hk.

Admission & Borrowing

The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong Library is open to all eligible users. Eligible users must have a valid University Identity Card to get access to the Library or borrow library materials. You may refer to the Library Regulations 2.1 – 3.3 to obtain more information.

Notes:

  1. For Course Reserve materials borrowing within two hours before closing on G/F, you may keep them overnight, and they must be returned before 9:30 am on the next opening day.
  2. Application should be made to the responsible Office / Department for obtaining the loan privileges.

 

Return

Library materials can be returned via self-check machines or book drop (during Library closing hours). The last return time of all Library Collections will be 30 minutes before the Library closed. You may find the details of returning different types of materials in the Library Regulations 3.5.

Please return your loan items on or before the due date to avoid overdue fines.

 

Renewal

You may renew the loan items online, provided that no other users hold the same items.

How do I renew an item?

 

Recall

“Recall” means a user has made a request for an item which is currently checked out by another user. Upon recall, the loan period for the checked out item will be shortened to 14 days from the date of recall. All books of Circulation Collection are subject to recall. You may refer to the Library Regulations 3.7 to obtain more information.

 

Reservation

You can reserve a loan item in the Circulation Collection online.

Borrowers can reserve items that are currently checked out by other users from the Circulation Collection according to the respective Loan Privileges.

Pickup notices will be sent via your campus email account. You must pick up the reserved item at 1/F Library Service Counter within two opening days of the Library. Otherwise, they will be passed to fill the next request or returned to the shelves.

 

Fines

Fines will be charged for late return items. Fine rate is based on the information stated in the Library Regulations 3.9.

Overdue notices will be sent to your campus email accounts. Non-receipt of the overdue notices will not be accepted as an excuse for waiving or reducing the overdue fines.

 

Loss, Assumed Loss and Damaged Items

You should check the books before checking out and report to the Library staff for any missing or torn pages immediately. You are responsible for any loss or damage of the loan items and will be charged accordingly. Please find the Library Regulations 3.10 for more detailed information.

 

Loss of Library Privileges

Your library privileges will be suspended as stated in the Library Regulations 4.

Services affected during the M365 switchover


ITSC of the University is having a M365 migration during 2 - 4 Jun 2023, some of the library services will be affected.

 

The Library’s online forms, notification emails and email communication service will be suspended during the migration. If you need any assistance during that period, you are welcome to contact us via phone (3963 5310), LiveChat, or in person during the Library’s opening hours.
