Edman Choy started at Herzog & de Meuron in Basel as a Project Architect in 2003 and became an Associate in 2009. He was involved in the M+ Museum in West Kowloon Cultural District since the competition stage in 2012. He has led the Hong Kong team as the Project Director since the design execution and construction stages of the project until the museum opening in 2021.
In this talk, Edman discussed the design development of two major art and cultural venues in Hong Kong: Tai Kwun and M+. He discussed the rationale behind their design and the impressive achievements they represent. He also shared the profound impact of thoughtful design in the cultural sector.

This lecture invited Frédéric Martel, a renowned French writer, researcher and university professor as our honorable speaker to talk about the relationship between digital and ecological transitions and their impact on art and culture. During the lecture, Prof. Martel explained the connection of these transitions, and shared his perspective on this shifting relationship.

Mr Dixon Wu shared the Preserving Video Games in the Digital Age in the last lecture. In this lecture, he focused on the development of video games industry in Asia. He narrated the gaming history and development of video games. Also, he shared the best-selling video game consoles as of Feb. 2023.

The speaker The Speaker, Dr. Raymond Fung, is a renowned artist and architect in Hong Kong. His exbihitions have been extensively spreaded around the world. Raymond began his career in landscaping, with a specific concern on the countryside of Hong Kong. In recent years, he has begun to explore universally shared values, in hope of raising people’s awareness for environmental and global social issues.
This talk was a post sharing of his Retrospect Exhibition titled: “Qī Shí (七拾)”, which brought the past seven memorable decades of Raymond’s life for one to “pick up” and savour, with seven sections marking the ups and downs of his life journey.

The speaker, Mr. Dixon Wu, is the founder and organizer of RETRO.HK Gaming Expo. In this lecture, Mr. Dixon Wu started from the history and culture of competitive games and extended to the preservation of video games. He shared the current status of worldwide for video games preservation and challenges of preservation on digital copies and physical copies.

Professor Philip Buckley is an expert on 19th and 20th century continental philosophy from McGill University, Montreal, Canada, specializing on phenomenology, Husserl, and Heidegger. In this lecture, Professor Buckley utilized certain concepts of phenomenology and the development of philosophy of art from the continental perspective, which is crucial for understanding contemporary trends in art and design.
AAD Public Lecture: In Between Self-reinforcing Strength & Co-creation: the Significance of Community Art

In this lecture, the three artists, Man Fung-yi, Mok Yat-san and Chan Sai-lok, explored the balance between self-ness & public-ness, individuals & community, and self-reinforcing strength & co-creation. They also emphasized collectivism, decentralization, and the importance of sustainable collective memories. Mok and Man brought up the spirit of Altruism, ComPASSION, and Sustainability via their exploration in Mother Nature, Chiangmai (2017~2019), and the recent community art project, Pleasantness Seating at Oi! Art Space (2022~). Lok would share how it had been sowing the seeds into the other facets.

2023 celebrates the 30th anniversary of the death of the great Italian film director Federico Fellini (1920-1993). In this lecture, the speaker, Mr. Federico Grandesso, a Council member of the Foundation, talked about Fellini and the Foundation’s work. He shared the introduction of the exhibition and showed drawings of all periods by the master.

Mr. C.F. Hui is by training an architect, and by interest an art historian, critic, collector, poet, calligrapher and painter. In this lecture, Mr. Hui discussed the art of Chinese painting as an evolutionary process of experimentation and innovation showcasing the creativity of great masters. He offered ideas on how to appreciate Chinese painting, discerning the originals from limitations. Also, the lecture was illustrated with paintings and images from Mr Hui’s collection.
