Digitisation is recognized as a preservation method for records and a means to enhance accessibility. It involves scanning, which is the process of converting analogue data into digital format, as well as creating metadata and documentation to facilitate data retrieval. Before scanning materials, staff must also assess the integrity of the items to determine if they are suitable for scanning and the scanning method.
Scanning specifications, including file format and resolution, depend on the sizes, types, and media of the items. The University Archives staff utilizes a variety of equipment for digitisation, including an overhead book scanner, flatbed photo scanner, interchangeable-lens camera, and professional-grade 3D scanner.

To support teaching and learning, the 3D scanner will be available for short-term loan starting from 2026.
