Library Collections
The Reference Collection includes a variety of quick reference materials such as encyclopaedias, dictionaries, thesauri, and handbooks. The printed reference collection is for use in the Library only.
There are also e-Reference resources that can be accessed 24/7. A full list of e-References can be found here.
The Course Reserve Collection contains materials recommended by academic staff and textbooks listed on the module outlines for course reading. Due to the massive demand for these items, they are available for two hours loan at a time.
The Special Collections house rare and unique materials, including significant works such as thirty-four autographed books by the Nobel Laureate Gao Xingjian, and a rich collection of works of Chinese literature, philosophy, and history donated by the Head of Department of Chinese, Professor Alex Cheung Kwong Yue. Selections of scholarly publications by HSUHK faculties are also housed here. Except for Gao Xingjian Collection, materials in the Special Collections are available for borrowing for two hours at a time. Please ask for assistance at G/F Service Counter.
The Circulation Collection is the main book collection available for borrowing. The books are organised by The Library of Congress Classification (LCC).
The Serials Collection consists of journals, scholarly journals, periodicals, magazines, and a selection of local and overseas newspapers. Back issues of periodicals and magazines are available for borrowing. For newspapers, up to three months of back issues are kept in the Library. Also, a wealth of journals, magazines, local and foreign newspapers are available electronically. They can be browsed online by title from Journal Search.
- CFA Collection
The CFA Collection consists of titles recommended by academic staff to support the Financial Analysis Programme of the University. This collection encompasses publications from various sources including study materials for the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Examinations.
- CPA Collection
This collection comprises learning resources published by the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (HKICPA) for students’ preparation and engagement in the CPA Qualification Programme. These publications support core subjects of accounting programmes offered by the University.
The Multimedia Collection provides a range of media resources in different formats. With over thousands of volumes of DVDs, VCDs, CDs, and CD-ROMs, this growing collection consists of the documentary in various subject areas as well as feature films for recreation and TV programs for teaching and learning.
Collections in Institute for Chinese Language and Culture
The Institute consists of a range of monographs and multimedia resources for supporting the teaching and learning of Chinese language and culture. This collection is particularly strong on materials for the studying of Putonghua.
Collections in English Language Centre
The Centre houses an assortment of books and media resources devoted to the teaching and studying of English language and culture.
