Study Carrels: Enhancement of Accessibility

(July 2015/Issue 50)
To further enhance provision of the service, with the support from ITSC, from now on, users can get access to their booked rooms from the access control devices outside using HSMC staff / student cards straight after claiming the bookings via the Campus Room Booking System.
In response to user’s suggestion on booking of study carrels, Library has changed the setting of online reservation from 4-hour to 2-hour per unit. In addition, the maximum number of time slot for booking has been adjusted to one for students and four for faculty members.

New arrangement for printing service

(May 2015/Issue 48)
In response to students’ printing needs, the Library has worked with ITSC to relocate one Octopus photocopier from the Printing Room to the printing 

area near the computer clusters on G/F. Users can now enjoy their preferred printing solutions – print quota or Octopus payment option – with this new arrangement.
Your feedback is valuable for the Library to further improve the printing service. Please complete the paper survey or the online survey by simply scanning the QR code.
Two photocopiers are still available in Printing Room at G/F.

Reminder to Graduating Students

Congratulations graduating students!
You can still enjoy various library services till 31 August, 2015 (Monday). These include:
  • Access to the library to use its facilities;
  • Check out library materials; and
  • Use Library electronic resources.

Reminder:

  • Please return all of your borrowed materials on or before their due dates; and
  • Settle any outstanding library fines (if you have any) on or before 31 August, 2015 (Monday).

24/7@24 Hours Study Area (27 April 2015 – 21 May 2015)

To facilitate students’ study and preparation for examination, the Library operated the 24 Hours Study Area to provide 24/7 access to the G/F of the Library during the following period:
27 Apr, 2015 (Mon 8:30 am) – 21 May, 2015 (Thu 7:30 am)*

To ensure safety, the Area is safeguarded by Security Guard. Library users are required to have valid student ID cards in order to access to the Area. Please tap your valid student card to the card reader next to the side door (G/F of the Library) to enter the Area.

Borrowing Services beyond HSMC Library for Academic Staff: HKUST Library Card Service

(February 2015/Issue 42)
In addition to borrowing materials from HSMC Library, academic staff is able to check out books from HKUST Library using the HKUST Borrower’s Card available from Library. Eligible users can visit Library Services Desk on G/F to borrow the card by presenting valid HSMC staff card.

A Good Start for Second Semester: Library Document Delivery Service (DDS)

To have a good start for second semester, Library is pleased to announce launching of Document Delivery Service (DDS) effective from February 2015.


The service will obtain materials not available at the HSMC Library from local document services suppliers to support the research needs of academic departments.

Access Resources beyond HSMC Library for Year 3 and Final Year Degree Students

Good news for Year 3 and Final Year degree students!
The Library is pleased to announce that the pilot run of the CUHK and HKSYU borrowing library card services to Final Year students is extended for another academic year until the end of August 2015. In addition, the pilot run also includes Year 3 degree students. With immediate effect, all Year 3 and Final Year Degree students are able to borrow the cards upon presenting of their valid student cards at HSMC Library service counters.
The reader’s cards allow students to access to the CUHK and HKSYU Libraries, use their library resources including printed and some electronic resources, as well as facilities and reference services in the Libraries.
