Emerald Online Quiz Winners

1st Prize Winner of the iPad mini
HSMC Students Joined the Emerald Online Quiz 2014
To promote the use of E-Resources, the Library organized an online quiz with Emerald 

from 11 April to 19 May 2014. A total of 72 HSMC students and staff took part in the quiz. Thank you everyone who supported the event. Participants who answered all quiz questions correctly with the use of the Emerald platform were entered into the lucky draw. A HSMC student, Kwok Man Yan, Janet, was the 1st prize winner of the iPad mini out of 264 participants. Other winners from HSMC are also listed below.

Leisure Reading Online@HSMC Library

Some e-book platforms cover a wide range of subject areas which providing sources for academic and leisure reading. For examples,

  • Airiti Books: Provides over 1,000 Chinese titles. Subject areas include Business, Literature and Fiction, Design and Arts, Humanities, Language, Science, Social Sciences, Computers, etc.
  • EBSCOhost eBook Collection: Covers more a hundred thousand English titles. Subject areas include Fiction, Business & Economics, Computer Science, Psychology, Social Sciences and more.
  • Books24x7 – ITPro: Provides books in IT and technical topics such as Graphic Design (Photoshop, Adobe Dreamweaver), Desktop & Office Applications (Microsoft Office 2013), Databases (SQL, Oracle) and beyond.

Databases on Trails – Try them out (April 2014)

The Library has arranged trial on the following databases for you to try them out.
Factiva

Factiva is a business reference resource that provides access to a wide range of information, such as newspapers, newswires, industry publications and company reports, in 22 languages from 159 countries. The trial will run until 10 May 2014.

Handbook of Pragmatics Online

It is an online handbook providing up-to-date information on research in the field of linguistic pragmatics, conceived as the interdisciplinary (cognitive, social, and cultural) science of natural language use. Topical articles, such as anaphora, bilingualism, codeswitching, cohesion, discourse markers, implicitness, mass media, negation, social institutions, terms of address, and brief biographies of eminent scholars are also included.

  • Take advantage of the library materials such as print books, e-books, e-journals and databases
  • Cite the sources of your assignments with the referencing tool – RefWorks
  • Access e-resources from Home by setting VPN on your own computers. Read the VPN Guide to set up a connection
  • Ask a Librarian for help with your research enquiries

24 Hours Opening (25 April – 23 May 2014)

To facilitate students’ study and preparation for examination, the Library operates the 24 Hours Study Area to provide 24/7 access (i.e. 24 hours a day, 7 days a week) on the G/F of the Library during the following period:

25 Apr 2014 (Fri, 7:00 pm) – 23 May 2014 (Fri, 7:30 am)

To ensure safety, the Area is safeguarded by a Security Guard. You are required to have valid HSMC student/staff ID cards in order to access to the Area. Please tab your card against the card reader next to the side door (G/F of the Library) to enter the area.
