New Interface of New Additions List

(July 2015/Issue 50)
The New Additions List has a new face. To make it easier for you to keep track and browse new library resources, library materials have been grouped into six categories: books, e-books, journals, e-journals, databases, multi-media and e-videos.
June of 2015 is a particularly fruitful month, with around 3,000 new e-books in a wide range of subject areas as well as two new databases and numbers of e-videos.

Up-to-date and In-depth Research Reviews by World-class Authors

Oxford Handbooks Online (OHO) is an online platform providing authoritative and up-to-date surveys of original research in various subject areas. It offers compelling new perspectives in humanities and social sciences. Peer-reviewed articles review the key issues and major debates, as well as provide an original argument for how those debates might evolve. New articles will be added monthly which provides academics with immediate access to new scholarship and informs current trends in research.

Study Carrels: Enhancement of Accessibility

To further enhance provision of the service, with the support from ITSC, from now on, users can get access to their booked rooms from the access control devices outside using HSMC staff / student cards straight after claiming the bookings via the Campus Room Booking System.
In response to user’s suggestion on booking of study carrels, Library has changed the setting of online reservation from 4-hour to 2-hour per unit. In addition, the maximum number of time slot for booking has been adjusted to one for students and four for faculty members.

High Quality Ebooks from a Leading Academic and Professional Publisher

SAGE Knowledge is a social sciences digital library. It includes an expansive range of scholarly books, encyclopedias, dictionaries, and handbooks. Books are in core areas of research and debate, as well as on cutting-edge topics. They are authored by world-class academics. The Library currently has subscription to 3 disciplines: Media & Communication, Sociology, and Business & Management. The interface is very user-friendly. Book content can be downloaded at chapter level. The “My Knowledge” feature allows creating reading lists and saving searches. Give it a try here!

New Addition of High Quality Academic Ebooks

Wiley Online Library hosts an extensive multidisciplinary collection of ebooks covering physical sciences, social sciences and humanities. Library’s current subscription delivers access to more than 2,000 books in 2 subject areas, namely Business, Economics, Finance & Accounting and Humanities. The simple and clean interface offers easy access to book chapters and references. Apart from searching for a specific title, it is also easy to browse by topics. The yellow lock icon indicates that you have access to the full text. Book chapters are in DRM-free PDF format. These ebooks are also findable from SearchPlus by searching “wiley online library”. HSMC Winners of the Emerald Online Quiz about Big Data

(June 2015/Issue 49)

To promote the use of E-Resources, the Library encouraged users to enter the Emerald Online Quiz about Big Data. There were 130 out of 300 participants come from Hang Seng Management College and around one-third of them answered all questions correctly. It is thoroughly deserved that 5 HSMC staff and students win an iPad mini (1st Prize) and four HK$200 gift vouchers. The winners are listed below:
