The Wall of Jean-Paul Sartre @Library Reading Club

(Issue 191/October 2022)

Jean-Paul Sartre is a modern French philosopher, writer and intellectual. The Wall is his only collection of short stories, which contains five works, i.e. “The Wall” (Le Mur), “The Room” (La Chambre), “Erostrate” (Érostrate), “Intimacy” (Intimité) and “The Childhood of a Leader”.

The reading group will focus on two of them, and they are “The Wall” and “The Childhood of a Leader”. By such close reading of two short stories, we hope to study how Sartre’s existentialist ideas are reflected by his literary works and, how literature represents philosophical ideas.
