Beitou 北投

What makes Beitou different from other parts of Taipei – which is relatively flat, since the whole city lies on a basin – is its proximity to Yangming Shan, a mountain dubbed as the city’s back garden. To appreciate this setting at the foot of the mountain, I often searched the area to find a good vantage point. After many futile attempts, I finally managed to locate this particular view from the Zoumei Sports Park. It is close to the Beitou Refuse Incinerator, which has become a landmark for other cities to learn from its success in environmental protection. Among the notable buildings in this picture, the ones on the right side of the mountain are unmistakably the famous Chinese Culture University…
