Description

Mount Davis is an area located in the westernmost part of Hong Kong Island. Named after the second Governor of Hong Kong Sir John Francis Davis, it was a strategic place for the defense of Hong Kong during WWII. The hilltop commands a panoramic view of the western gate of Victoria Harbour and was once the site of an artillery depot of the British forces with installation of five 9.2-inch guns. The Hong Kong Youth Hostel Association has a hostel here which is very popular because of its proximity to the city centre as well as the fresh air and views from the hilltop. This sketch was done during an overnight stay at the hostel during springtime, with a morning glimpse of the harbour in a thin fog…
